COST OF TREATMENT (2008)

Costs are determined by four factors:

  • Child or adult (age 20+) : treatment for children is 10% - 15% less than for adults.
  • One or both arches : most patients need treatment to both sets of teeth; when treatment with a fixed brace to just one dental arch is needed, the overall cost is reduced by about 40%
  • The duration of treatment
  • Fixed or removable braces : treatment limited to removable braces is less costly; however, most patients require fixed braces for at least part of their treatment.

Cost of fixed braces for upper and lower teeth:

  • Children and teenagers:
£3300 for treatment taking about 12 months
£3700 for treatment taking about 18 months

£4100 for treatment taking about 24 months
  • Adults (age 20+):
£3800 for treatment taking about 12 months
£4200 for treatment taking about 18 months

£4600 for treatment taking about 24 months
  • The above range of costs will include most treatments; however, in some cases, costs will be lower and in a small number of cases, costs will be higher.
  • In nearly all cases, the cost of treatment is fully determined prior to treatment starting and therefore the subject of a firm quotation.

Cost of fixed brace for one dental arch (upper or lower):

  • Children and teenagers:
£1500 for treatment taking about 6 months
£1900 for treatment taking about 12 months

£2200 for treatment taking about 18 months
  • Adults (age 20+):
£1900 for treatment taking about 6 months
£2300 for treatment taking about 12 months

£2600 for treatment taking about 18 months

Cost of Invisalign treatment:

  • Upper and lower:
£4800
  • Single dental arch :
£4000

Payments are by instalments over the anticipated duration of treatment:

  • Three options are offered: payment by instalment every six months, payment by monthly standing order or full payment in advance, which attracts a small discount.
  • Payment may be made by cheque, debit card, credit card or by monthly standing order.

NO HIDDEN EXTRAS – THESE COSTS ARE COMPREHENSIVE and include:

  • All necessary fixed braces and any additional removable, functional, orthopaedic or headgear appliances that might be needed.
  • Tooth coloured ceramic brace components where appropriate.
  • All radiographs and plaster models required during treatment
  • All adjustment visits.
  • Any unforeseen additional or emergency visits.
  • The repair of broken braces (but not the replacement of removable braces that are lost or damaged beyond repair).
  • Technical laboratory work.
  • Any manual toothbrushes required during the active phase of fixed brace treatment.
  • Fixed or removable retainer appliances fitted on completion of active treatment.
  • Supervision of retention for the first twelve months.

The cost of treatment does not include the following :

  • Any treatment undertaken by another dentist or healthcare professional; examples include the provision of restorative or orthodontic implants, or bridges.
  • The use of Invisalign unless specifically included
  • Supervision of retention beyond 12 months. Review visits at this stage are usually either annual or biennial and are charged on a visit by visit basis.
